We attended an event this afternoon at the Veterans Memorial in downtown Huntsville. They are going to put a time capsule in the ground that they wont take up for fifty years. The girls signed up to be ambassadors. If they are chosen, they will come back to the ceremony, where they will have a group picture taken (with the other kid ambassadors) and the picture will be put in the time capsule. In fifty years, this group of ambassadors will come back when they take up the time capsule, and get to be a part of the ceremony.
This statue was modeled after real soldiers from the Madison County area. They were all wounded in battle.
The girl who is the soldier on the right side of the picture, was at the event, and the girls got to meet her. She had been in an explosion, and received a severe brain injury. It was an honor to meet her.
Grandma and Papaw even have their own brick at the memorial.
