Every year, we drive out to Brown Farms in Hazel Green to meet up with Donna and Kenzie to pick strawberries! Last year, we were unable to go because of the tornadoes. (I still bought some from them, we just weren’t able to go pick them ourselves).
We wanted our timing to be just right this year. Strawberry season only lasts a few weeks. If you go too early in the season, they are not sweet enough. If you go too late, they are too mushy. This year, we timed it just right. They were PERFECT!
(That strawberry was immediately eaten)
We ended up picking three overflowing buckets, but I’m sure my kids ate at least a bucket while we picked!
You just can’t buy anything like this in the store. They are incredible!
We went home, and turned our strawberries into strawberry jam. We are now stocked for another year!
Gas to Hazel Green $10.00
strawberries $30.00
2 hours of picking in the hot sun
3 hours of washing, hulling, mashing, and making jam
equals
Priceless memories with best friends, and enough yummy all natural jam to last a whole year!
