I felt very honored today to get to participate in an event (take pictures) that my moms company sponsored for a local elementary school. It is a school that has struggled in the past, and has had very low test scores. They have really turned things around in the past couple of years, and my moms company has taken them under their wings and helps in different areas. They have provided them with books, learning incentives, and some of their employees even volunteer their time to go in and be reading tutors.
Todays event was a bike give away. The kids have worked really hard to bring up their test scores, and to encourage the kids, they offered them ways to earn their name to be put in the drawing. They had to have good behavior, work hard, show kindness, etc.
The bikes were the grand prizes, two were given away to each grade level (third, fourth and fifth), but they also gave away a bunch of Wal-Mart gift cards. They also rewarded the teachers for all of their hard work with gift cards for a nice dinner!
When I arrived, I could just feel the excitement in the air. They were all so proud to be in the drawing!
It was such a wonderful time! Thank you mom for allowing me to be a part of something so special! You guys are doing GREAT things!
