Today was a wonderful Saturday! We started out with some early yard sales, followed by some soccer….
Next we headed to Decatur where we stopped by the farmers market. We never can resist a good farmers market, and the one in Decatur is the best. I forgot my camera in the car, but the girls were so cute going from stand to stand sampling all the yummy fruits and veggies. They were allowed to pick one thing, and they picked muscadines! The lady was so sweet, she winked at them when they handed her their $2, and she poured 2 containers in their bag. They were so proud! They ate almost all of that big ol’ bag in the car. Who knew muscadines were so yummy!
Our next stop was at Aunt Sandy’s house so that Danny could finish up the tree that he painted in her new room. It turned out so cute! It matches the room Perfectly!! Maw popped in while we were there, so the girls got a double dose of lovin!
After we finished up at Aunt Sandy’s, she hopped in the van with us to go for a ride in the country! Danny loves to drive the girls around where he grew up and tell them where everybody lives and all of his stories. They absolutely love it. Today, he took us by His Ma-Maw Cottingham’s old house. They have recently cleaned out a lot of brush, so we could really get a good look at it.
We ended up at Uncle Roger, Aunt Beth, and Abbie’s house. We enjoyed sitting around and just visiting, but the entertainment really began when Lucy asked Uncle Roger to play his guitar and let her sing. They sang a few songs they both knew like “you are my sunshine”, and “Jesus loves me”, but then she asked him to just play music and let her sing “her” songs! He played a melody and she jumped in and sang her little heart out. All of her songs are usually about God, the river, and a tree. We were all pretty amazed that she was able to just sing along to whatever melody he was playing! She definitely has some old southern gospel down in her soul! Jessi was not home while we were there, but we were able to call her on speaker phone and let her hear part of the show, I think it brought a smile to her face. It was wonderful!
When we were getting ready to leave Lucy spotted a tree in their yard that she could climb. It was one that had been knocked down by the tornado, so she could get to it easily. We all know how much my girls like to climb a tree! Their daddy’s nick-name when he was little was “Tree-Dog”, so I think climbing trees is just in their blood!
It was a wonderful day full of family! Doesn’t get any better than that!
